The Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq has been a target of attacks by Iran and pro-Iranian militias since the US and Israel launched a war against Iran in February.

Araqchí's denial comes after the Iraqi Foreign Minister, Fuad Husein, condemned the attack and called on Iran to provide an official explanation for its stance and the identity of those responsible for launching the drones.

Husein highlighted that the attack was different from previous ones, which Iran had justified due to the presence of Iranian opposition parties in the Kurdistan region. In this case, the target was the residence of the Kurdish Prime Minister, which Husein considers a "dangerous precedent" that could increase tensions and threaten regional stability.

The attack occurred on Monday, when two drones carrying explosives hit the office of Barzani and the residence of the director of the regional security service in the district of Pirmam, in the province of Erbil. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

The Iraqi government has formed a committee to investigate the attack and determine its origin, responsible parties, and motives. The committee's findings will be communicated to the public.

The attack follows a report by the US digital news outlet Axios that Washington had approached the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, in January to act as a diplomatic intermediary with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

The Kurdistan region has been attacked over 1,000 times by Iran and pro-Iranian militias since the start of the US and Israel's war against Iran in February, resulting in the deaths of 32 people, according to the Kurdish news outlet Rudaw.
