Cuautitlán Izcalli Floods: Emergency Operation Deployed After Heavy Rainfall
Heavy rainfall in Cuautitlán Izcalli, Mexico, has caused flooding and a sinkhole, prompting an emergency operation to remove water from streets and assist pedestrians.

The municipality of Cuautitlán Izcalli in the State of Mexico has been affected by heavy rainfall, causing flooding and a sinkhole. To address the situation, the government has deployed an emergency operation, concentrating equipment and workers in the affected areas of El Socorro, San Sebastián Xhala, and Vista Hermosa.
## Emergency Operation Underway
The operation, known as Operagua, has been working to remove water from the streets and reduce the risk of further damage to homes. The authorities have reported that the rainfall has stopped, but the work continues to accelerate the removal of accumulated water from the collectors and reduce the potential impact on homes.
### Equipment and Personnel Deployed
As part of the operation, the Tecoac reservoir has been kept active, with the goal of reducing water levels in the different collectors of the drainage system. Additionally, equipment for suction has been deployed in the area to attend to the points with the greatest accumulation and contribute to the liberation of the drainage systems.
The authorities have stated that the work has focused particularly on Vista Hermosa and El Socorro, where attention has been maintained for the neighbors after the evening rains.
## Sinkhole Detected in Industrial Cuamatla
In addition to the flooding caused by the rain, a sinkhole has been detected in Industrial Cuamatla. Elements of the Civil Protection and Fire Department of Cuautitlán Izcalli have been deployed to secure the area. The area has been cordoned off, and an initial assessment has been made to prevent accidents between pedestrians and motorists.
As part of the review, personnel from Operagua will conduct an inspection to determine if there is any damage or leak in the hydraulic network that could be related to the soil softening.
## Authorities Maintain Emergency Operation
The municipal government has assured that it has maintained presence and support for the affected inhabitants, while the work of removing water and supervising the infrastructure continues.
| Area | Cárcamo | Equipos de Hidrosucción | | --- | --- | --- | | El Socorro | Activo | Desplegado | | Vista Hermosa | Activo | Desplegado | | Xhala | Activo | Desplegado |
The operation of the reservoirs and the deployment of suction equipment form part of the measures to reduce the accumulated levels in the collectors and prevent water from reaching more homes. Civil Protection and Firefighters also remain vigilant for possible risks derived from the soil softening, especially in areas where sinkholes or damage to the infrastructure have been detected.
While there are no new precipitation forecasts, the work of pumping and removing water will continue to normalize conditions in the affected areas of Cuautitlán Izcalli.
## Waste Removal from El Ángulo Reservoir
In recent days, the municipal government reported that Operagua has removed between 90 and 100 tons of waste from the El Ángulo reservoir, as part of preventive actions to reduce risks during the rainy season.
The cleaning work aims to improve the conditions of the hydraulic infrastructure and reduce the possibility of overflows or floods in nearby residential areas.
The removal of waste is considered a preventive action because the accumulation of waste and other materials can obstruct the flow of water and reduce the capacity of the bodies and hydraulic systems to conduct water.
